21 political parties back Fayemi

Twenty-one political parties as well as commercial motorcyclists and artisans on Thursday declared support for Ekiti State Governor,   Kayode Fayemi, ahead of the June 21 governorship election.

At a joint press briefing in Ado-Ekiti, the Chairman of the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties, Prince Tunji Ogunlola, stressed the need for people to avoid political rancour and acrimony capable of truncating the peaceful atmosphere of the state and the nation.

Ogunsola, who recalled Fayemi's achievements since inception, also commended the government for the peace being enjoyed in the state.

In his contribution, the state chairman of Commercial Motorcycle Operators of Nigeria, Mr. Ademo Martins, said the decision to support Fayemi for second term was a collective one of all members describing some commercial motorcyclists supporting other candidates as not genuine members of the umbrella body in the state.

Political parties and their representatives at the ceremony were Prince Ayo Adelabu of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, Victor Akinola of Advanced Congress Democrats and Mr. Tola Oke of Citizens Popular Party.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State, Mr. Femi Bamisile, on Thursday defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress. Bamisile announced his defection at the mega rally organised by the APC in Ado-Ekiti.
Apart from Bamisile, other leaders of the PDP in the state including Justice Edward Ojuolape (retd) and Chief Dapo Ali-Baloye also defected to the ruling party.
Bamisile, had initially indicated interest to contest the governorship ticket of the PDP but after his withdrawal it was rumored the he would be picked as the running mate to Mr. Ayo Fayose but this did not materialise.
